EXECUTION

OP TUH I. ( Telegram jrom our CoiTespondcnt.) Wellington, Wednesday Night. Tuhi, murderer of Miss Dobie, was hanged this morning at eight o’clock. He was the first criminal in the colony hanged on the new principle, having a noose and leather washer under his loft ear to make him comfortable. He had •a drop of eight feet, and death was instantaneous. His demeanour on the scaffold was bravo, but he murmured against the white cap being put over bis eyes. The hangman is Daniel Marshall, a strange old man who has done this ghastly business in the colony tor the last thirty years. The Sheriff refused to let a cast of Tuhi’s head be taken alter death. Tuhi wrote a letter to the Governor in which he sought to excuse his crime on the plea of drunkenness. He termed beer, rum, and spirits as the Governor’s children. This native style of expression hits the mark.
