HAWBEA. Mr Freeman R. Jackson reports —There were about 150 head yarded mi Friday, and prices were about I lie same as at the last sale. On account of tlie excitement, consequent upon the (ioverninent. land sales, there was not as good an attendance «f buyers as usual. Most of the stock were, however, disposed of, at following' prices:—Cows, £-1 to Cl ss; two-year-old steers, £4 2s Gd ; yearling's, £2 ss.
AUCKLAND WOOL AND STOCK. (Latest Report. ) Wool.. —Messrs Hunter ami Nolan’s second wool sale of the season was held on Thursday (December 9), when 30 bales and packages were disposed of at a slight cleline on last quotations.—Mr Bnckland s wool sale on Tuesday (December 14) was fully attended with buyers. The late reports from London not being so good as expected, there was a further decline in price of about id. on washed wools, being from Id to 2d per lb. less than the opening sales of this series. House Stock. —Messrs 11 miter and Nolan report that at their sale at the Durham Yards on Friday (December 10) the average number of horses were entered. The bidding was slow, but nearly all were disposed of at satisfactory prices.—At the Hay Market on Friday (December 10) horse stock were in unusually large number, but of a useful class ; bidding was steady throughout the sale, and with very few exceptions all yarded were sold. At the miction, rilling and light harness horses brought from £7 to .LIS ; medium draught, £l7 to £2G : heavy draught, £29 to £3B each.
Catti.l-, Bhi;i;i>. &c. —Messrs 11 miter and Nolan report Unit at the Newmnrke t saleyards on Tuesday the 14th about (lie usual number of cattle were yarded. Beet was dull of sale consequent on the butchers being overstocked ; other descriptions sold at last week’s quotations.—At Papaknra on Monday loth was held a special sale ; store cattle sold at advanced rate. Sheep : the yards were well filled on Tuesday last ; prices were a shade lower ; lambs
were in full supply, and met with great competition ; pigs were in large numbers and sold low. —Mr Ruck land reports that at Pokcno on Monday (Dec 13) the muster of cattle was the largest yet held in those, yards. There were plenty of buyers, ami satisfactory prices were obtained throughout tbesalc. —At Kemuera Yards on Thurs-
day (Dec 16) dairy cattle were in limited numbers, but in belter enquiry than last 1 week ; young store cattle at last week’s values, ami young better worth ; fat cattle in less than average supply, ] 17 bead being yarded, the whole of which sold at prices higher, and none sold at as low quotation as last week ; prices ranged from 20 s to 265. but the greater part varied only from 23s to 25s per lOOibs : sheep were in
full supply, hut better worth, and wcHicrs brought 24d to 2.', d, but several pens of ewes brought barely 2d per lb ; lambs wen- numerous, and at lower prices than Inst week, but all fair quality brought above 8s each ; prices ranged from 10s to 13 s ; good quality well-bred pigs, from 70lbs to lOOlhs weight, were in brisk enquiry, and a full supply of well-bred store pigs, in low condition, occasioned good competition. Puoru/i'E.—Butler (fresh), 7d to 8d ; eggs, lOd to Is ; bacon and hams, provincial, 7d to 1 Id ; Canterbury do., HJd to KUd ; potatoes, £ 1 5s to £2 per ton. WELLINGTON COMMERCIAL. (From N.sj. 2fail.) An improvement in business during the past weeks Ims manifested itself, orders coming in freely for the Christmas requirements. There is no material alteration in values. Dried Fruits of every description arc scarce. Cun ants are firmly held for Gd to Gjd, and sales of Elcmo raisins have been made at 7d and 7 : [d ;• the market for this description is quite bare. Sultanas arc not in much request, and may be quoted at 7d to 7 : Jd. Figs are worth from 9d to lOd, but Hie size of the boxes in our market are rather large, there is therefore little doing. Muscatels, really prime fruit is unobtainable. There is, however, a parcel to arrive in a few days by mail steamer, a largo portion of which lias changed hands already at Is Id to Is 2d Jordan almonds are worth 2s oil to 2s 7d Dried apples G d, with little doing. Salt has again fallen in prices in consequence of large shipments to arrive. Wo hear the s.s Northumberland has over 100 tons, and with our market glutted prices arc not likely In recover for some time. Galvanised imn is worth £2G for 2Gin gnage G to 8 feet : Slocks arc very large, mid tlio demnnd limited : there is ;t reduction in the prices of fencing wires, No G, £ls 8s to £ls 10s, No 7, £IG. No 8, £IG 10s, and for 9 and 10 a concession mi the latter quotation would he accepted : 11.11, wire nails are scarce and are worth about £24 10s. for assorted sizes. Sheet lead is in full supply and quotable at £22. Kerosene for over testis worth from Is lOd to 2s, uiiflertest oil is not in the market. CHRISTCHURCH PRODUCE AND STOCK, (Latest Report.) Business is unchanged, little, or nothing doing in the grain market. Good sound milling wheat is quoted at 4s. 3d. to4s.4d. Stout milling oats from Is 8d to Is 9d. per bushel ; J'eed oats, Is 5d to Is Gd. per bushel ; prime malting barley is quoted at 3s to 3s 3d. Rye-grass seed is without the slightest inquiry. , Dairy produce of all kinds is unaltered : cheese, 4d to 44-d.; butter (plentiful, with indiiferent soles), od to Gel.; old keg butter is unsaleableHams and bacon, in cloth, 8A to Od. Live Stook.—There is a fall on last
week’s prices ; beef is quoted at 18s per lOOlbs., being a fall of 25., and mutton at per lb, being a fall of l|d. Lambs sold at from 7s Gd to 9s each. AUCKLAND RETAIL FRICKS. (Corrected by latest report.)
