KAKARAMEA.

(URO3I O U R C 0 II U E S I* 0 X I) E X T,) Monday Evening. On Wednesday last the school was examined by Mr Inspector Foulis. The following children passed in Standard 1.: George Fainvoather, Annie Williamson, Jessie Williamson, Florence Powdrell, and Evelyn Brown. In Standard II.: John Burke, Arthur Chapman, Charles Fairweather, William Clover, Christina Wilson, and Annie Brodic. The candidates for Standards 111., IV., and V. did not succeed in obtaining pass marks. Some dissatisfaction at the results of this examination has been expressed by several of the parents. This is not to be wondered at when tho children complain, as of old, that they could not understand their examiner. It is believed that several who failed would have pulled through had they perfectly understood what was dictated to them. This is a very serious matter with regard both to tho teacher and scholars, and necessitates a full enquiry by the Committee. Friday was a fete day with the little

ones, being’the occasion of their breahingnp for the Christinas holidays Between 60 and 60 assembled at two o’clock, and notwithstanding the unfavorable state of the weather enjoyed themselves with races, leaping - matches, &c. Later on, many of the parents put in appearance, and at five o’clock all sat down to a good tea in the school. After tea, sports were renewed until dusk, and then an adjournment was made to the Town Hall, where the children, assisted by Mr Brown at the organ, sang - two or three pieces and gave recitations. The prizes were distributed by Mr Ilawkcn, in the absence of the chairman, and then three hearty cheers for the teacher and three for the committee brought the proceedings to a close. Thanks are duo to the ladies and gentlemen who did so much towards making things pass off pleasantly.
