CANTERBURY GRAIN & PRODUCE(From Canterbury Times.) The business of the past week in the grain market has partaken much of the same character as the preceding. The feeling continues one of extreme quietness, and transactions have been on a meagre scale. Wheat. —Values of wheat stand at the quotations of last week—4s 3d to 4s 4d—with very little doing. The few parcels brought forward found buyers among the millers at the above rates. Inferior quality is selling at 3s 6d to 3s lOd. Feed samples are rather dull of sale, though several small lines of this description arc reported as having been disposed of at Is 8d to 2s fid. Oats. —Business in this grain lias not improved, and the market is still characterised by a want of vitality. Best milling sorts are quoted at Is 6d to Is Bd, and feed parcels at Is 3d to Is sd. Barley. —Transactions in this grain have been unimportant —very little is coming forward, and that mostly of the lower grades. Best is quoted at 3s 3d to 3s 6d ; while fair malting is saleable at 2s 6d to 2s lOd. The enquiry for feed samples is not over active, and prices range from Is fid to Is 9d. Flour. —Millers report a fair demand for flour at £lO to £ll, according to brand. Ryegrass. —Beyond an occasional enquiry for small parcels, nothing can be recorded. Until the new seed conies into the market business will continue limited. Dairy Produce. —The price of butter remains at 5d to fid, without much passing. Cheese is quoted at 3ld to 4d, with a dull enquiry. Hams and bacon in cloth, Sid to 9d.
CANTERBURY STOCK. (From Canterbury Times.) There was a good muster of dealers and members of the trade at the Addington yards Wednesday last, but bidding throughout was unusually dull. The stock yarded comprised 4688 sheep, 710 cattle, and 91 pigs, the bulk being of prime quality. Sheep.— The quality of the fat sheep was fully up to the average, yet prices were not generally satisfactory. The sheep on this occasion were all shorn, the prices realised being, for prime crossbreds 12s 3d, good do 10s 6d, medium 8 s to 8s 7d, prime merinos 8s 3d. We quote mutton at l?d per lb. Fat lambs were in large supply, best quality realising 9d, medium 7s 6d to 8s 6d. Stores wore in good demand, and merinos in good condition sold up to 6s 3d. There wore no cross-breds to hand. Cattle. —Prime beef realised equal to 18s per lOOlbs. Very few stores were sold, in consequence of owners asking too high a price for them, and thereby leaving no margin of consequence between stores and fat stock. Pigs. —Best quality realised £2, good, and medium from 16s to £1 10. AUCKLAND RETAIL PRICES. (Corrected by latest report.)
