Crown Lands Office, Carlyle, 29 November, 1880. tN ACCORDANCE with public X notification published in the “ New Zealand Gazette,” the ensuing sales will take place as follow : Monday, 13 Dec. and following days Thirty rural sections, from 50 to 100 acres each, open for selection on deferred paymrents at Land offices, Carlyle and Hawera Wednesday, 15 December, at 11 o’clock a.m. Sale by auction between applicants for above to date, at Town Hall, Hawera Thursday, 16 Dec., at 11 o’clock a.m. Sale by auction for cash of about 6,000 acres, subdivided into rural sections, at Hawera Town Hall Friday, 17 Dec., at 11 o’clock a.m. Sale by auction of toivn and suburban sections, Opunaki and Manaia, at Town Hall, Hawera Monday, 20 Dec. and following days Village settlements— Manaia, Otakeho and Opunaki, open for application for cash and on deferred payments, at Land offices, Carlyle and Hawera Wednesday, 22 December, at 11 o’clock a.m. Sale by auction between applicants for cash, and lottery for deferred payment applicants, Manaia, Otakeho, and Opunaki village settlements, at the Town Hall, Hawera Lithographed plans, and printed schedules showing prices and areas of allotments, and full information as to conditions of purchase, and occupation on deferred payments, may be obtained on application at the Land offices, Carlyle and Hawera, and at the various Land offices throughout the Colony. THE mistake many Advertisers make is to place their advertising expenses to current account instead of to capital account. Suppose a yearly expenditure of £IOO in Advertising produces a net profit of only £2O for the first year. Undoubtedly this does not mean a loss of £BO, but it means a return of £2O per cent upon capital invested ; for the business is there, and will remain if properly looked after, and a second year’s Advertising will most certainly increase the profit on the full capital to 30 or 40 per cent. As a set-off to these expenses in the capital account of the enterprising business-man, he can show the increased value of the article advertised, and also of the goodwill of his business.
