HAWERA.

'The Mail has over 90 subscribers between Manutahi and Stratford. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Monday livening. Strangers are again Hocking in to inspect the Plains, and it is generally thought prices will be higher than at last sale. The land, if anything, is bettor than the last lot, although there is little difference until one gets past Oeo. Beyond that place the soil is more sandy and would be difficult to crop owing to the quantity of stones. Coining home from races generally brings forth an accident or two, and the Patea Races did not prove an exception. A buggy and pair, driven by Mr Murray and Mr 11. Douglas, came to grief at the side of the Manawapon Hill. It would appear that Mr Murray intending to get off the rough metal thought he would turn off the crown of the road, but it being dark he did not notice there was a drop of a couple of feet. The occupants picked themselves off the ground in lime to sec the buggy right itself, the horses galloping along the road with it. They seemed to have steered themselves very well until they got over the Tonguhoe Bridge, when the buggy again capsized and the horses came to a stand-still, and were not hurt the least. The buggy was somewhat injured. Mr Richards was the only one that fared badly, as he got some nasty cuts on his face and his logs wore bruised. The Parihaka meeting resulted in nothing new. I hear of no reference to the Plains occupation. Mr Parris essayed to address the people but was told by Tc Whiti to sit down. He said he would only discuss the subject with the Govcrnnor, and not with any of his servants. He likened the Government to a dog hunting the wild pig. After a lime Mr Parris was force to sit down. The Bishop of Wellington arrived here on Saturday, and preached at Normanby in tbo morning and Ilawera in the evening, in each case to very largo congregations.
