SPECIAL TELEGRAMS

RECEIVED LAST NIGHT. MR PARRIS AND TE WHITI. WHAT NEXT ? New Plymouth, Friday. At the Parihaka monthly meeting, after the conclusion of Tc Whiti’s speech, Mr Parris essayed, on behalf of the Government, to speak to the Natives; but Te Whiti interrupted him, and after a few words cut the conversation short by giving the signal for the meeting to break up. The Natives all arose and left the meeting-house. People will be asking what is to follow ? SERIOUS FIRE. Christchurch, Thursday. A lire broke out at Caise’s Lodge at 3 o’clock this morning, and Mr Horsford’s stud horses were saved with difficulty, the saddlery, &c., being burnt. Damage about £2OO.
