FACTION.
Ireland is sorely troubled. Land Leaguers and Fenians have combined, and arc threatening a general strike against rent. Orangemen are demonstrating on the other side; and party divisions arc assuming the old form of a Catholic and Protestant feud. The healing influence of centuries has made
little difference. Celt hates Briton, |
and Briton despises Celt, as in the old days when Cromwell swept the North of Ireland like a slayer in Old Testament story. Home Rule must be tried, with some limitation that will make it equally suitable to Scotland ; else there will be furious jealousy.
