VOLUNTEER CAPITATION.
Sir, —Through the medium of your paper, Mr Trogear has now given me certain information I most desired, and in the interests of the majority of the members of No 2 Company I beg to state that the present self-appointed finance committee is a more myth. Mr Tregear naturally asks how it is I, as secretary, knew nothing about the matter. My intention is to find this out, and ascertain the reason of my being totally ignored. Since my appointment as secretary, 1 have not resigned that position, therefore as the legal secretary I shall require to know upon whose authority those gentlemen calling themselves the “ finance committee ” are acting. They certainly have no power to act upon their own responsibility until the committee to which 1 am secretary have tendered their resignation. L shall require to bo recognised in the matter : that’s certain. The amalgamation of the two corps was all very well ; but the amalgamation of the funds was out of the question altogether. The finances of both corps had by every right to be arranged hy their respective Committees. No 1 Company Having received tiicir cloth from the Government, it is simply absurd to presume ihat one or two would-be officials had an equal right to control the funds of both companies when they amalgamated, without the cognizance of those who were previously in sole control of No 2 Company, when about £l3O was lying to the credit of No 2, and only about £2O to No 1. Ihc committee first appointed should have been requested to resign, before another committee acted ; and as this has not been done, I submit that the committee now acting are doing so illegally, and the question will bo raised why in the first instance the money was not handed over to mo as secretary of the committee, as I have ascertained on reliable authority such is the usual formula.—Yours, H. Bush, See. Finance Committee, No. 2 Company.
