KAKARAMEA CAMP.
Sin, —As an exception has been taken on several occasions to the general character of tiie so-called unemployed, allow me to call your attention to the undermentioned case to siiow that, though unfortunate, they are yet kindly and generous to others in distress. A member of this camp received a letter from Wanganui on Saturday, stating that his wife was dangerously ill* and in great distress ; and as it was known that the poor woman was quite destitute of aught except her husband’s wages, which of course would be totally inadequate in case of sickness, a subscription was opened on the spot, and taken round the three camps, with the following result. The amounts given arc small, but so arc the wages. The men gave fully that which they could ill spare :—Kakaramea camp, £2 14s Gd , Chapman’s road camp, £1 9s Gd ; Manutahi camp, 2s. Total, £4 Gs.—l remain, sir,
Justice. [Note. —We are asked to receive and forward any other gifts towards this appeal, and will do so.—Ed.]
