FAIR TENDERS.
Siu, —Hitherto in this district a very loose way has obtained with regard to treatment of tenders for private work to bo done. Tenders are usually left with proprietor or his appointed agent, who receives them and opens the same at his own pleasure or convenience. Contractors naturally feel that this is open to very great objection, as no doubt in many cases a favored individual is thus enabled to accommodate his price to the lowest tender already received. The trade naturally feel that when they have prepared tenders, which by the way involve both trouble and time, and really represent money, that they individually arc entitled to be fairly treated in the matter. In all advanced communities tenders are called for, to be delivered and opened at a stated hour by either the proprietor or his appointed agent. Each tenderer, can then,.inperson or by proxy, attend. The amount of each tender as opened is stated, and the lowest or any tender accepted. This plan has alrways given satisfaction, and is the only one fair to all parties concerned. —Yours, Chips.
