WAVERLEY.

'The Mail has over 80 subscribers between Whenuakura and Waitotara. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL . Monday Evening. Mr F. E. Jackson’s Sale. —The usual monthly stock sale was held hero on Saturday, and was well attended. The prices realized were much the same as usual. Immediately after the sale the privileges of the Wavcrley-Waitotara Racing Club spring meeting were sold at the Commercial Hotel. Some confusion arose through the cheque of a local publican being refused, after he had bought some of the privileges. These had to be put up to auction again, and the booths, refreshment stalls, and grand stand fell to Messrs Ballam and Woolston. Mr H. F. Mason got the saddling paddock. Owing to a possible dispute about the gate privileges, the committee will retain them this season. Public Library.—Mr Fookes has received a catalogue of books, which are to be added to the Public Library to replace those lost by fire at Mr Winchcomb’s,

I.O.G.T.—The Waverley Lodge met last Thursday night, and notwithstanding the Wanganui show and races, there was a good attendance. All the officers were elected, viz. : —WCT Brother James Riddell; AWT Brother Riselcy; WS Brother Barclay; WTS Brother AVilliams; WT Brother Bridge ; W Chaplain Rev R. JAllsworth ; WM Brother D. McLean ; WIG Brother 11. McDonald ; WOG Brother G. Mackic ; WAS Brother James Walker; RHS Sister A. McLean ; LIIS Sister A. Riddell; WDM Sister E. Riddell; PWCT Brother Kenah, The Lodge is in a flourishing condition. Several propositions for membership were made, and the evening finished up with a few songs. At the conclusion the presiding officer read an extract from a number of that morning’s Mail, which spoke of the noise made by some younger members in leaving the hall. A word to the wise proved sufficient, and all members loft in an orderly manner, restraining their mirthfulnoss. The aim of Good Templars is to save the fallen.
