PATEA BONDED WAREHOUSE.

Tin-; appointment of a keeper of bonded stores at Pa tea port is not yet made, but the conditions on which a local warehouse can receive bonded stores have been fixed by the Customs Department, and applications from local merchants or others who have warehousing convenience are now invited by circular. The keeper of bonded stores must give security by bond, the amount to be fixed, and he must have two approved securities. He becomes responsible for the duties due on goods received in bond, and it will be his business to collect the amounts as the goods go out from time to time. The warehouse is to be used exclusively for bonded goods, and they are to be so stored that the bond marks can be seen. The warehouse book is to be accessible at all times to an inspecting officer. The charges for storage are to be on a fixed scale. Bottling or repacking arc not to bo allowed in the warehouse. The amounts of duty arc to bo received and paid to the Bank of New Zealand before the goods can be removed, and receipts for such payments are to be posted same day to the collector of Customs at Wanganui ag the nearest port of Customs. The warehouse-keeper becomes liable for the duty on any goods which may bo removed from bond before payment. The regulations are signed by H. A. Atkinson, and dated October loth.
