GOLD NEAR SYDNEY.
The special reporter of the Sydney Morning Herald , having visited the Bermnguc gold field, reports that there arc about 500 men hero now, camped ou a strip of land which extends along the beach for about three miles from the point. The gold found mainly consists of prospects washed from the stuff which lies at a depth of 4ft from the surface, ou a pipe-clay bottom. Very good samples of fine gold arc obtained, from a few grains to an ounce to the dish washed ; but as very little ground is opened and very little work done, it would bo promature to say what the stuff in any of the claims will average, or what width of ground may bo worked back of the strip, which runs regularly round the beach at a distance of say 50 yards from high-water mark, and upon which all the claims are marked out a distance of two miles. There are lagoons with fresh water, and ridges of made land. The color, but nothing more, has boon obtained on some of the ridges, and it is quite possible the payable ground wili bo confined to the beach.
