fl* It 0 M 0U It COItUEHV 0XI) K X T.] .Friday Evening’. Railway construction has been making good progress during the past month. The mils are now laid within a mile and a half of Waverley, and about a mile and a half of bottom ballasting has been done from the Waitotara station north. Only 7 the openings through the principal cuttings near Waverley have been made to admit the rails, and an engine and trucks utilized to taho down the slopes of cuttings and widen the embankments. The boy Mathews has been getting on well during the week, under Mrs Gibson’s care, Dr Wilkin having been in Wanganui until yesterday. Our cricket club seems to have died a natural death, there not being enough players left in the district to start it again this season. We have now no practice ground, or wo might have been able to induce Maxwelltown to join us and form a good club.
