WAVERLEY.

[F ROM OUR C 0 ItBESI’OSDEN T.] BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL. Monday Evening. Kiklk Match. —The competition which took place on Saturday resulted in a victory for the privates, who bent their opponents by 80 points. The men mustered about 1.30, but considerable time was lost in shifting and painting the targets, which had riot been shifted from the old site; and as each leaf of the target is a.grcat weight, it was Avith seine difficulty that they were removed to the new site. Captain Hawse tried the new butts by firing two shots at .them, and showed they were bullet-proof. The roof of the butts is very awkward, interfering with the marker, and about 12 or 15 inches should be sawn off the length of the roof; Firing commenced about 2.30, but as a cold wind was blowing strongly across the range the shooting was not so good as it might' have been. Appended are the scores:—

Waiuoa Light lloii.sk. —This company will commence the annual six days’ drill on Thursday, at tho Recreation Ground. They will be under the command of Major Noake, and it is hoped there will be a full attendance, as this company is of long standing and good report. Good Tk.mih.aiiy. — The writer of a recent report of Good Templars’ meeting desires us to express regret if his remarks were misunderstood to be in any souse invidious. As to sisters being admitted to the lodge, he says in one case of unbecoming conduct a married brother was found to be keeping company with a single “ sister,” and as this was injurious to the reputation of the order, the panics were expelled.
