On Friday, notwithstanding the number submitted by auction were below the average, bidding was slow ; but eventually all in were disposed of. No high prices were obtained, but about last week’s rales ruled for similar stamp of horses.

CATTLE. —There has been a good supply and spirited demand. There was a slight improvement in dairy stock, and stores s old freely, notwithstanding that many graziers are retraining from making up their herds until the forthcoming fair. There was a large number of all descrip tions yarded at Newmarket on Tuesday. Competition was good throughout the sale. Fat beasts well up in condition did not decline in value, hut for these insufficiently fatted sellers had to submit to a shade lower rate. We quote : Dairy cows, £7 to £9 ss; dry cows, £3 15s ; yearling steers, £2 12s 6d to £3 10s ; two-y’ear-old steers, £4 7s 6d to £5 12s 6d ; three and four-year-old steers, £5 15s to £8 10s ; two and three-year old heifers, £4 to £5 5s ; beef, 22s to 30s. Sheep. —Above the average number were penned at Newmarket on Tuesday, and for fat sheep there was a decidedly upward tendency. 2s 6d pe< 81 ha having been given for the best pens. Lambs were in adequate supply, and sold af,from 7s 6d to 15s. Pigs were tolerably plentiful. The de mand was brisk, and improved values were obtained.
