AUCKLAND STOCK. (.Latest Report .) Houses. —The market has shown an improvement on the previous week, and a good many have changed hands. On Friday a good many were entered for ' disposal by auction at the Durham Yards. Bidding was steady throughout the sale, with the exception of a few animals, for which reserves could not be reached. Prices ruled in favor of vendors, as compared with the previous week. We quote saddle horses, from £ls 10s to £24 5s ; medium draught, £35 15s. Cattle. —The supply has been good, and a corresponding demand has existed, consequently all that were offered were disposed of at prices showing scarcely any alteration in value. At Newmarket, on Tuesday, there was a large muster, as also at Waiuku, on Wednesday. Store cattle at both sales were competed for about the same rates. For dairy of good description there remains an unsatisfied enquiry, while inferior were in excess of requirments. - Fat beasts were well represented at Newmarket,.and for top sorts there was a little decline in value, but indifferently fatted receded fully 2s per 1001 bs. There was no noteworthy alteration in the value of other descriptions. Sheep. —A good many have been brought forward. Purchasers looked follower fates, while vendors were indisposed to submit to a reduction. Consequently, at Newmarket, several pens were withdrawn. Best wethers sold at from 17s to 19s Gd ; mixed, from 13s to 15s 9d. Lambs not so plentiful as the previous week, and sold at from 8s to 15s. Pigs were tolerably, plentiful. Good porkers sold at 3d per lb., live weight. NOT many years since, the Newspaper Press was meagre and very limited. Now the opinion of the Colony is consulted, through the Press, upon the most and the least important questions of the day ; whilst, in a Commercial sense, an opportunity is afforded to Merchants and others of announcing to the world what they have to Sell, and what are the special advantages of their goods. — Advt. Manual. THE mistake many Advertisers make is to place their advertising expenses to current account instead of to capital account. Suppose a yearly expenditure of £IOO in 'Advertising produces a net profit of only £2O for the first 3' ear. Undoubtedly this does not mean a loss of £BO, but it means a return of £2O per cent upon capital invested ; for the business is there," and will remain if properly looked after, and a second year’s Advertising will most certainly increase the profit on the. full • capital, to 30 or 40 per cent. . As a set-off to these, expenses in. the capital account of the enterprising business-man, he can show the increased value of the article advertised, and also of the goodwill of his business: • Some; business-men lose' sight of this fact.— Advertisers’ JUTcmuaZ. - - . ..
