THE mistake many Advertisers make ■ is to place their advertising expenses to current account instead of to capital account. Suppose a yearly expenditure of £IOO in Advertising produces a net profit of only £2O for the first year. Undoubtedly > this does.not mean a loss of £Bo^'but it means a return of £2O per cent upon capital invested ; for the business is there,-.and..will remain if properly looked after,-/and a second year’s Advertising will i most certainly increase the profit'on the full capital to 30; or 40 per cent. As a set-off to these expenses in, the capital account of the enterprising business-man, ho can. show the increased value of the ,article advertised, and also of the, goodwilljof , bis business.
