It now transpires that the report received last week that the Albanians had attacked and expelled the Turkish garrison at Dulcigno is devoid of foundation.

Bartholomew Hilaire has been appointed French Minister for Foreign Affairs. RIOTING IN CHINA. Pekin, 23rd. Serious riots have taken place at Canton. The Catholic mission station was attacked, and several persons injured. The military were called out, and order restored. SECURITIES FALLING. London, 22nd. New’ Zealand securities arc falling. To-day’s quotations are, 5 per cent. 10-40 Loan, Loan, 10 It?. FATAL LANDSLIP. London, 23rd. Intelligence has been received that a serious landslip has occurred at a place called Namittal, fn India, by which 11 officers and 24 men of a British regiment stationed there have been killed. QUEENSLAND POLITICS. Brisbane, Friday. In the Legislative Assembly last night a resolution was passed prohibiting members, but not Ministers or officials of Parliament, from receiving payment for services rendered to Government. CHAMPION ROWING. London 22nd. , Trickett and Laycock are both well, and continue in active training. The latter is sanguine of winning his race with Blackham. He has now got his new boat from Swaddle and Winship, of Newcastle-on-Tyne. Hanlon has arrived in England, and has gone to Putney, where he goes into tiaining. CONTEMPT 0F COURT. Sydney, Friday. The Evening News has been fined £250 for contempt of Court. The Chief Justice delivered judgment most elaborately. Notice of appeal was given against the decision, but he refused to grant it, and said the defendants must petition the judicial committee of the Privy Council. The offence w r as the publishing of details in a rape case, after the judge had warned the paper to desist. RENT AGITATION. London, 22nd. The Land League agitation movement jji_Jreland is at the present time very atjive.
THE EASTERN QUESTION. London, 22nd. In consequence of relations between Turkey and England in regard to the Montenegrin difficulty, various works which had been commenced at Cyprus have been stopped. The Porto has issued a circular saying that the Powers must be answerable for any results that may occur through the violation of the rights of the Sultan. LONDON WOOL. London, 22nd. At the wool sale to-day, 8700 bales were offered. There was a firm and active demand. LOAN FOR VICTORIA. London, 22nd. The balance of the Victorian 4-| per cent. Loan was issued to-day.
