The Eimdtaka. —The New Zealand Times says that the defences from the furious wind gusts that are to bo erected on the ilimutaka section of the railway will consist of massive timber fences on each side of the line, constructed of piles driven very deeply into the embankment, and heavily planked. Mr Blackett informs us that their cost will uot bo excessive, and that he is ceriain of the success of the experiment. Wo also understand that the Telegraph Department has decided to connect Kaitoko and the summit by the A. B. C. and block system of telegraphing.
Australia and New Zealand consume between them one-half of the spirits exported from England.
