WAVERLEY.
[FROM OUll CORRESPONDENT.] BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL . Monday Evening. Ser-Contracts. —It now appears there was truth in the report that one firm had thrown up their contract. This is much to be regretted, as storekeepers and others lose confidence in comparative strangers, and from exercising due precaution in protecting themselves much inconvenience may be caused to such as have no intention of doing otherwise than paying their way. Bachelors’ Ball. —The last act in this business was the final settling up, and the committee arc to be congratulated on the result. On Saturday evening it was found they had provided the ball of tlic season, and had not dipped deeply in their pockets? a consideration with bachelors as well as others in these hard times. The Concert to-morrow evening ought to be well attended, the programme being excellent, and the performers are known to be the best in the district. A good “ houso ” will assist materially towards purchasing a harmonium for tho Church of England.
