Town Destroyed toy Earthquake. Sydney, Monday. The E. and A.M. s.s, Brisbane has arrived at Cooktown from Singapore,and brings news that a second shock of earthquake occurred on July 20th, and completed the destruction of Manilla. The damage is very great. The inhabitants were panic-stricken, but the loss of life was not great. The •whole city oscillated, and the principal buildings are in ruins, the debris blocking the streets. Business is at a standstill. PRESS PROSECUTION. Sydney, Monday. The case in the Supreme Court has commenced againstthe proprietors of the Excning News for alleged contempt of Court, in commenting on Judge Windoyer’s summing up in an action for libel. The defendants offered a qualified apology, but the bench objected, and the case is adjourned till to-morrow. MUTINY OF TROOPS. Calcutta. 27th. A mutiny among the troops of the Khan of Khelat is reported. The mutiny is not serious. WOOL SALES. London, 2Sth. At the wool sales to-day, 8,500 bales were offered. The tone was quiet. ENGLISH POLITICS. London, 28tii. The House of Commons has passed the Burials Bill through committee. The Hares and Rabbits Bill is read a third time. DEFEAT OF CRICKETERS. London, 28tb. The match Australians v. Eighteen of Stockport (Lancashire) was concluded to-day. The Home team won by 118 runs. [Noth. —This may be an error in transmission, the Australians having carried all before them hitherto,—Ed.] ENGLISH HARVEST. London, 2Sth. The harvest prospects in England continue favorable, the weather being good at present.
