MARKETS.

CANTERBURY STOCK. (Latest Report.) The weekly market at Addington Yards on Wednesday last, was very well attended, but the sale opened dull and only a slight improvement occurcd towards the close. The continued fine weather was no doubt the immediate cause of this, the trade being unwilling to operate largely in view of a decline in prices as grass becomes more plentiful. On sheep there was a drop equal to nearly Is 9d per head. The stock j’arded comprised 4717 sheep, 476 cattle and 52 pigs. The entries were quite up to the average in quality. Sheep. —Prime lots of cross-bred realised as high as 21s ; good do, 14s 6d to 15s, Merinos sold at from 10s 6d to 12s. We quote mutton at 2fd per lb. The supply of stores was limited, and there was a brisk enquiry for stock of this description. Best cross-breds realised 11s each. There were no merinos in the market. Cattle —There was a large supply of both fat and store stock. The former were dull of sale, and the prices obtained were consequently somewhat under those of last week. We quote prime beef at 24s per 1001b. Stores are in increased demand) two-year old steers and heifers sold up to £4 15s ; yearlings, £3 ; calves, £1 13, Pigs—The pigs brought forward were cleared at last week’s quotations.

CANTERBURY GRAIN & PRODUCE. The market generally has 4 been quiet during the week. The improved prices current, however, have been fully maintained, and the values of some of the lines have had a hardening tendency.
