WAVERLEY.

[from our correspondent.] BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Friday Evening, Accident. —On Wednesday evening as Messrs Morton, Hawes, and James Dickie were returning from Wanganui, they met with what might have been a serious accident. As they were passing along the road above the dam on Dr Lavlc’s property near Maxwell, their horses shied at another conveyance, and backed the buggy over the hank. The occupants managed to scramble out not much the worse for their capsize, hut the buggy and harness were considerably damaged, the horses getting out of the mess apparently little the worse. Good Templars.— The usual fortnightly meeting of this society led some of the members of the Patea lodge to pay them a visit. There was a fair muster of members and friends in the old Town Hall, and they spent an enjoyable evening. The members of both societies seemed to vie with each other in providing a pleasant evening’s entertainment. Addresses, readings, and songs filled up the time, and they separated with a conviction that such visits are a pleasing surprise. Concert.— The practising for the Church of England concert is held this evening It is reported that the Patea choir is to give their assistance, and if such is the case there can he little doubt that with their aid the Church concert will he a success.
