APPLES PROM AMERICA.
American farmers are pushing on the apple-growing business. A market is found in Europe for a surprising quantity. Amongst the apples in principal demand arc the Northern Spy, Newtown Pippin, Baldwin, and Roxbury Russett. The Baldwin, in many of the American States, is regarded as one of the most profitable apples to grow, either for table or market. The tree is vigorous and an early and abundant bearer. The extent of the apple export from America may be judged from the fact that one firm alone shipped 30,000 barrels last yeur, which was considered a poor year for fruit. The American Agriculturist says : — l, lt is reasonable to expect that the close of the present year will see the export of apples well up among the millions of barrels. With this expectation, it is well for orchardists to see that a good share of their fruit is of a kind that will boar the ocean transit, and also bo acceirtablc to tho eye and palate of the foreign consumer.”
