CANTERBURY STOCK. (Latest Report.)
The weekly sale at Addington on Wednesday was largely attended, and there was a full supply of stock, sheep being unusually numerous. The bidding throughout the day was, however, well sustained, and all lots were sold at satisfactory rates. Sukki’.—Owing to the large entry of sheep, competition was not quite so keen as at the previous sale, and prices were somewhat irregular, but all the lots were quitted at little if anything under previous quotations. The top price obtained for cross-breds was 17s 6d, and the lowest 14s. Prime merinos sold at 14s, which we believe is the highest price obtained this season. We quote mutton at 3d per lb. Stores are largely enquired for, in proof of which it may be said that a line of cross-bred lambing-down ewes sold at 15s. Cattle.—Consequent upon the market being very fully supplied, beef dropped from 2s to 3s per 1001b, though it must be remembered that the price which obtained last week was exceptionally high.
