WAVERLEY.

[F ROM OUR: C O It'll KSPOKDKN T.]

DRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL,

Wednesday Evening.

On Tuesday some little excitement was caused by a chimney on lire. The building was the properly of Messrs Howie, bakers and butchers, and at one time there was some danger of the fire becoming serious. There is no supply of water, or any means for putting out fire in Waverley, and it is therefore the duty of householders to attend to their chimneys and keep them clean, thereby reducing the chances of an awkward, contingency.

The action of the Town Board in th° matter of fences encroaching on the streets must commend itself to all. Carelcsness or indifference in such matters will now he checked in the township ; and although Waverlcy may never be a very bustling place, it may, so far as streets and fences are concerned, present a neat and tidy appearance. . .

. Ciujiicii of England. —This neat little church was taken over from the contractors on Monday last. The work has been well, done,, and the plan of the whole shews great taste. The opening service on Sunday morning will be conducted by Archdeacon Thorpe, when there will no doubt be a large attendance of members and adhereilts of the church from the surrounding, district. The Ecv Mr Dascnt and the Pntca choir will assist at the morning service ; and he will conduct the evening at Waverley, the Archdeacon going to Paten for eveniii" service. Mr Dasent will hold service at Waitotara in the afternoon.
