COUNTIES ACT AMENDMENT.

The House of Representatives went into committee to-day upon the Comuics Act Amendment Bill, Mr Kelly being appointed chairman. Mr Sutton, in order to throw out the Bill, moved that the Chairman do leave the chair. Mr Seddon proposed a"great number of amendments, the whole of which were rejected, and the Bill was finally reported to tho House with unimportant alterations. BILLS ADVANCED. The second reading of the High School Revenues Bill was carried on a division, by 40 ayes to 17 noes. The following Bills were advanced certain stages :—Joint Stock Companies Act 1860 Amendment Bill, Dogs Registration Bill, Brands and Branding Bill, Fencing Bill, and Impounding Bill. LE GISLA IT VE CO UNCIL. In the Legislative Council yesterday the Attorncy-Gencial made a statement as to the impending change of Governors, and added that he could not say when Sir Arthur Gordon would arrive, as he was at present on a cruise amongst the islands. A large quantity of Bills, chiefly from tho Lower House, were advanced various stages. BILLS ABANDONED. The Premier has abandoned 12 bills, namely :—Town Districts, Fisheries, Education Reserves Amendment, Public Entertainments Prohibition, Cemeteries, New Zealand University Reserves, Canterbury Reserves Amendment, Auctioneers, Fire and Marine Insvrancc Companies, Gaming and Lotteries, Hawkers and Pedlars, and Peace Preservation. REDISTRIBUTION OF SEATS. The Premier states the second reading of this bill will be moved, but it- will depend on the House whether the bill bo carried farther. The Licensing Bill will not be pressed. THE PLAINS. The Government announce that they will not put military settlements on the Waimatc Plains. The land will be opened to public bidding.
