SUPPOSED MURDER by CHINESE.
An atrocious and disgusting outrage, resulting fatally, has occured at Kyburn gold-diggings, Otago. An elderly widow, Airs Young, respectable and industrious, lived alone in a hut, not far from a group of Chinese minors. On Thursday morning she was found unconscious, having been brutally outraged and assaulted. She died in a few hours. Bobbery appears to have been the principal motive, as the contents of the deceased’s purse were taken, together with her watch and trinkets. The house had been broken in with stones, two of which were found inside marked with blood. The murdered woman was in good circumstances.
