WAVERLEY.

BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Friday Evening This Weather. —On Thursday the weather here was very wet, and towards evening the wind ami rain made it very desirable to keep indoors. To-day (Friday), the rain lias cleared off, but the wind blows cold, and so much rain has fallen that, in many places, it will prevent those engaged in contract work from doing much to-day. Bkasshy-stubet. —The tenders for the work required on this street close on Saturday, so that those intending to put in an offer have not much time to lose. It is to bo hoped that.the Town Board will try to push on the work of street formation, as prices arc low at present, and the work will help to thin the ranks of the unemployed. Railway. —lt was generally believed that the Railway would not be opened any farther than Kai Iwi until opened through to Waverley. This is a mistake, it would appear, as Mr Rotherham is to run trains to Waitotara on and after the Ist September. This arrangement will bo an advantage to the settlers, and even if the Government should not put on regular trains settlers may have their heavy goods brought as far as Waitotara, while the material for the line from Waitotara to Waverley is being forwarded to the contractors for that section.
