KAKARAMEA.
(PBOM OUR COBBISSPONDEST.) Entertainment. —Some particulars of the concert at tiic Town Hall on Thursday last may be interesting. The overture, “ Home, sweet home,” was played with expression by a lady of our town. The song, “Nannie’s awa,” was rendered very sweetly by a member of the Patea Harmonic Society, and elicited much applause. Among other features of the programme were a recitatiou bj T a Kakaramca resident, well known for his elocutionary powers, entitled “The philosopher and the mite the old sweet song, “ Ever of thee,” by a lady who lately made her debut ; the lively and pretty duett, “ Come, birdie, come,” by violin and flute; the song> “Dublin Bay,” by a lady from Wanganui,
who possesses a voice of great power and sweetness ; and the basso song, “ Charge of the Light Brigade.” All these met with full share of applause. A negro song and step dance by a member of the Snowball Troupe, deservedly encored, brought down the curtain. Thanks are due to the liberal hostess who provided the refreshments on this occasion. Fire. —On Thursday evening the residence of Mr Dalzicl, a much respected settler at Woodville, was burnt to the ground. I have not been able to ascertain how the fire originated, but I am informed the unfortunate owner was uninsured.
