Brisk Business —lt is truly and beautifully said that the night is seldom so dark that one star is not visible, and in thes e dull times when business is almost at a standstill we have one bright star in the Resident Magistrate’s Court. Old friends around us are assigning their estates to their creditors, passing thiough the bankruptcy court, and closing their premises, but at the court all is life and active. Since the cemmencement of the present year that Court has issued no less than 550 Summonses fordebt, a number unparalleled in the history of any one year since the Court has been established here. In addition to this large amount of business, the affiliated District Court has had to deal with 80 bankruptcies during the year.— Taranaki Herald.
