MARKETS.
CANTERBURY GRAIN & PRODUCE. (Latest Report,) The grain market during the past week has not shown any special feature. A fair amount of trade can be reported, and the feeling on the whole is healthier. Wheat. —Milling samples have been sold during the week at 3s 6d, .and at 3s 3d to 3s 4d for lower grades. Seed parcels have had a better enquiry. Fceding”descriptions continue abundant. OATS.— The improved feeling already noted continues, and good samples of feed kinds command Is 3d to Is 4d. Best milling are in good demand, and Is 5d to Is can be obtained. Considerable sales of both of the above descriptions have transpired lately. Sales of lower quality arc not so easily made, and the quantity offering continues large. Barley. —Fair sales of good malting barley' have taken place during the week at 2a 6d to 2s Bd. The quotation for firstclass remains at 3s 3d, but the samples coming forward answering to this class are not numerous. Potatoes. —Business in potatoes for shipment lately has been comparatively brisk at 22s Gd to 255. Flour.—The demand has been up to the average at the old rates, viz, £9 to £lO. Grass Seed. —There has been a slight enquiry' for early sowing purposes, but actual sales have not been extensive. Dairy Produce.— Butter, tHd to lOd ; cheese, 4d to 4kl ; hams and bacon, 9id. CANTERBURY STOCK. (Latest Report.) There was a large muster of both town and country' layers at the Addington Yards on Wednesday last. These included a number of graziers who were ready to purchase if opportunity offered, but as the supply of stores was limited they did not secure many lots. The entries comprised 4047 sheep, 311 cattle, and G2 pigsSheep. —There were a good supply of fat sheep. A small proportion of those y’arded were extra prime, but the bulk were only' of medium quality'. Prime cross-breds sold up to 19s, good do 16s 6d. Prime merinos brought 13s 6d, and light weights 10s. We quote mutton at 2f per lb. Stores being in limited supply they' excited keen competition, and sold at high rates.
Cattle. —The supply of fat cattle was in excess of the demand ; prime beef realised 22s Gd per 1001b. Several lots were turned out unsold. There were no stores calling for mention. There is a brisk enquiry for two and three year old stock. Pigs are without alteration.
