KAKARAMEA.
(F It 0 M Ol'll COURICSI> OND K N T .) Friday Evening. Entertainment. —A public musical entertainment anti dance were given in the Town Hall last evening, in aid of the building fund. Several ladies and gentleman of the district, and a lady from Wanganui, contributed to the amusement of the evening. There was not quite so large an audience as on the last occasion, but this may bo partly accounted for through the usual monthly assembly at Man.utahi falling on the same evening. The uncertain state of the weather, too, may have had something to do with the decrease in the attendance. Still, the amount realised, £G ss, shows that there was a moderate house. The musical selections were rendered with taste and care, I will endeavor to give the details in Tuesday’s issue. Earthquake. —The shock of earthquake on Wednesday afternoon was precoded by a loud rumbling noise, and followed by a peculiar sulphurous odour No serious damage was done here, although the shock was sufficiently strong to stop clocks and knock down various household articles. Old residents say they have not experienced one like it for many years. Unemployed. —A contingent of the unemployed consisting of 28 men, arrived here yesterday, and are camped in the township. It is expected that they will immediately proceed with the railway works to be constructed here.
