A pack of hounds met on /Saturday afternoon at Mr Chavannes’ Victoria Hotel, Wanganui, the field numbering about fifty horsemen, some few in pink. A'large crowd of spectators assembled to sec the start, and Messrs Smiley and Gpr. don turned out coaches for the occasion. The drag had been taken along Ingestro.. street towards the Ilncecourse, from : that through the Industrial School Estate crossing the Avenue into G-lasgow-street and then over some paddocks, finally terminating beyond the Aramoho Hotel. The horsemen in. at the finish were Messrs J. Higgie on King Don, Chaldicote on Eebcl Chief, C. Higgle on Ireland, and A. Higgic on Deborah. A number of others were pretty close np. After half-an-hour’s spell the drag; was sent town wards, and a rapid run in was effected, the scent being so strong that the field were *• nowhere.” The finish- was on a riso on the Industrial School Estate, The run up to Aramoho was rather slow, .as a considerable time elapsed between the drag and the start. There were a number of spills, but, so far as we hcai’d, no one was hurt.. We understand one of the hounds was either killed or much hurt. — Chronicle.
