CANTERBURY GRAIN & PRODUCE. {Latest Report.)

The aspect of the grain market during the past week shows little difference from the preceding. The season for wheat shipments to England having almostclosed, the vessels now loading find it comparatively difficult to fill up, and are taking barley and oats at the wheat rate without hesitation. It is not considered at all improbable in some quarters that homeward freights will touch a lower level still.

Wheat. —The market has not altered during the week to any appreciable extent. Good milling is saleable at 3s Gd, and for a first-class lots 3s 7d could be obtained. Feed samples continue abundant, and prices range between 2s and 2s Bd, according to quality. Oats. —The better feeling noted in ou r last report has been maintained, and really good feeding sorts are saleable at Is 3d to Is 4d. Bright heavy samples of milling description find buyers at Isod to Is sd£. Tbo quantity offering of low feed is large, and sales of this clasc are not so easy to make at Is Id to Is 2d£. Barley has undergone little or no change. First-class is quoted up to 3s 3d. Good malting, 2s Gd to 2s 2d. Potatoes are being sold at last week’s rates, 22s 6d to 255. Business, however, is not active at the moment. Flour.—A fair trade demand has bceu had for flour at £9 to £lO according to brand. Grass Seed. —The enquiry for both ryegrass and cocksfoot continues dormant, though another month or so shoald open a bettor prospect. Dairy Produce. —Butter remains in fair enquiry at lOd ; cheese dull at 4d to 44d ; hams and bacon 9|. CANTERBURY STOCK. (Latest Report.) There was a good muster of the trade at Addington on Wednesda} 7 ; and competition was keen throughout the sale. The stock yarded comprised 5724 sheep, 214 cattle, and 161 pigs. Sheer. —The bulk of the sheep yarded were of an excellent stamp for the butchers, who had much stronger competition than usual from graziers, and the result was a decided advance in price. One grazier alone purchased over 2000 sheep. Fat sheep realised as high as 17s 3d each, and we quote mutton at 3d per lb. Stores were in good demand at increased rates. Cattle. —The greater portion of the cattle yarded were of fair trade quality, and fat stock sold freely. Prime beef realised from 22s Gd to 26s per 1001b. Stores were in supply and sold well. PlGS. —The pigs yarded were of inferior quality, and prices displayed a downward tendency.
