MAORI WAR PREPARATIONS.

SEIZURE OF AMMUNITION FOR THE WEST COAST. Pursuit of Natives. (Sjiecial Despatch to Mail.) Napier, Wednesday Night, Three Maoris who are believed to be followers of Tc Whiti have been visit ing other tribes in Hawke’s Bay. They started by train this morning on their return to the Parihaka country. They had a very heavy parcel which they tried to lift into the railway carriage, to take as personal luggage, but the guard refused to let the carriage be blocked. He insisted on taking the parcel into the luggage van, but the three Maoris only seemed the more anxious to drag their heavy parcel in with them. The guard refused to let them go at all, and they reluctantly carried their precious parcel to the luggage van. The guard’s suspicion being aroused, he examined the mysterious parcel, and found in it a quantity of powder and nearly two hundredweight of shot. The guard allowed the three natives to take their parcel at the terminus, and get away. He did give information on the return. The police then telegraphed to Norsewood to stop the natives with the parcel, and it is believed they could not have got far with such heavy luggage to carry.

Major Scully loft Napier by the next train. It is ascertained that the three natives wont on by coach with the parcel.
