Public Announcements. T HE ATEA JV laIE. CHANGE OF PROPRIETARY. The undersigned begs to intimate that ho has, from the first day of July, disposed of the Patea Mail Newspaper and Property, under deed of purchase, to Mr Edward Houghton, a gentleman who has been associated with high-class journals in England for a considerable period, and who for the past three months has conducted the editorial duties of this journal. The undersigned feels confident that, under Mr Houghton’s management, the Mail will occupy a high and influential position as a newspaper, and that the inhabitants of this County will recognize in him an honest and independent journalist. The return of the undersigned to Patea in April was for the purpose of improving the property, and placing it upon n sounder basis, as he recognized that the paper as then published was behind the requirements of the district. He hopes that the liberal patronage which has been accorded to the Mail since its establish- - - - jiio BUCUCSiSOI'j who will be found in all business matters to be fully deserving of public confidence and support. In handing over the reins to his successor, he feels confident that the district before long will be a considerable gainer; and, although he has incurred a large outlay since In’s return, he can now look back to the improved appearance of the paper as a full recompense for that expenditure. In conclusion, as the founding of newspapers has been his speciality, business interests in the South Island require his immediate superintendence. He takes leave of subscribers with a lively appreciation of that liberality which lias resulted in the successful establishment of the Mail, and of his personal friends with enduring remembrance of their kindness.
