COACHING A BISHOP.

The predecessor of Dr Fraser in the see of Manchester was Bishop Lee, a strongly pronounced ecclesiastic. A good story of him is told in an English religious journal, as follows: —“ He bad been out to a dinner on the occasion of some Church ceremony—consecration or confirmation—and had ordered his carriage at too early an hour. The night was wet and cold, so (he coachman kept the horses on the move, and again and again called at convenient gin palaces for a dram to keep the ooin out,. In duo Hu,,, Lee appeared, and was soon cushioned within, but he bad not proceeded far when be inferred the state of matters- from the movements of the carriage ; so out he got, divested John of bis coat and waterproof, and enfolded himself in them. The coachman was placed inside the carriage, and the bishop mounted the box and soon reached bis own door. The footman descended the ball steps, looked up at the coachman, and not perceiving the change of character, enquired in bis usual style, ‘ Well ; have you got the old fool inside?’ The bishop’s feelings may be imagined.’”
