MARKETS.
CANTERBURY STOCK. (.Latest Report.) There was a full attendance of the trade at the Addington Yards on Wednesday, and the supply of stock being short, the competition for all lines was very keen. Sheep. —The bulk of the sheep yarded were of fair quality, but some were extra prime. Fat wethers sold at prices ranging up to 17s 6d each, which is the highest price realised this season. These sheep were from Mr Coster’s farm at the Rakaia We quote mutton at 2f per lb. The few stores to hand sold well. Merino ewes, ful and broken mouthed, sold at 6s each. Cattle. —There was a good supply of fat cattle, but the quality l- was not up to that of recent supplies. The bidding, was however, very keen. Prime beef realised 23s per 1001b. There was an inquiry for forward conditioned stores. A few lots changed hands at prices ranging up to £4 12s Gd. Pigs.—The demand for pigs was not so keen as at the previous sale. Those yarded realised from 22s to 30s each. CANTERBURY GRAIN & PRODUCE. (Latest Report) Although the past week has been quiet, business in the grain market has shown in certain lines a little more life.
Wheat.-—Quotations for wheat remain at 3s G I for good milling, and 3s 3d to ds 4d for average samples, but the business passing through hands has not been important. Feed samples are plentiful, and are selling at 2s for low, and up to 2s 8d for better kinds. Oats. —A slight improvement can be noted in this grain. Although values have not been affected to any great extent, yet parcels of certain classes are more readily looked at by buyers. Good feed are quoted at Is 3d to Is 4d, while milling are readily saleable at Is sd. Several lines of only moderate feed quality have been quitted at Is 2d to Is 2id. Barley.— The market for this grain is unaltered. First-class is saleable up to 3s 3d, while good malting commands 2s6d to 2s 9d ; lower grades range from Is 6d to 2s. Considerable shipments of barley are now being tried to England, and with the greater facility in obtaining freight, the export may help to relieve in a slight measure the glut. Potatoes. —Fair sales for immediate delivery arc reported at 22s 6d to 255. Flour is moving off in small trade lots at £9 to £lO, according to brand. Grass Seed is without enquiry. Dairy Produce, —The values for dairy produce are unaltered.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. (Latest Report.) Melbourne.— The Argus reports : Breads! uffs are still moving off slowly. Flour maintains our quotation of£9 6s to £9 7s 6d. In feeding grains oats have been more noticed. Maize has improved considerably ; about 400 bags found buyers at 2s 8d to 2s 9d. Feeding barley was disposed of at 2s Id to 2s 34d. Sugars show a considerable improvement. Sales of corn sacks are mentioned at 8s Gd in trade parcels. HEW PLYMOUTH RETAIL PRICES. (Corrected by latest report), Buying. Sellng. s. d. s. d.
