PATEA WEST ECONOMY.
Sm, —Observing in the minutes of the Patea West Road Board that the Board appointed Mr Dale secretary at £25 per annum, will yon kindly, through your columns, enlighten ratepayers as to the reason of the Board raising Mr Dale’s wages ? Last year he got I think £3O per annum, the meetings to be held once a month. That would not be leas than twelve meetings, at £2 10s per meeting, now this year it is £4 3s 6d per meeting. Retrenchment, like a whale that! Where was Mr Ball ? I would like to have seen who the four voters were for rising the wages, as you do not state in your report. I would likewise ask is Mr Dale returning officer in that sum, or is he to get £1 Is per election extra ? Also have the members called upon Mr Dale to find securities in case of fire ? Has the Board an inventory of properties in Mr Dale’s possession belonging to the ratepayers, and is open for inspection at any lime? By giving the above information you will oblige Ratepayer.
