WAVERLEY.

BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL

Mnnt/f/rr. Mr. Fnolra

Building. —Mr Catnnnoh, painter, who lias been jobbhing in and aiound the township for some time, is now erecting a cottage for himself. This must be taken as a proof that he is so far satisfied with the place when he intends bringing his wife and family here. Late Storm.— From all quarters reports speak of the storm of Monday as the most severe which has been experienced for a long time. The Whoiiuakura has not been so high for years, as it was overflowing its banks in some parts, while the, rapidity with which it rose about eight feet points out the danger of such rain-rivers. The bridge, on the road leading to Messrs Riddel and Walker’s was under ■water for some time, but no. great damage was done. Slips and damaged culverts are to be met with everywhere, more especially on the by-roads. Stokes.-— The store formerly occupied by Mr Hogg has been opened by Mr Leo, and when he has got everything arranged he will no doubt make a fine show and do a fair business. The report that Messrs Skclley intended to add a grocery branch to their business was quite correct; but for the present two stores may be found sufficient 'for the public requirements. Mu G. S. Bridge took bis seat at the Comity Council on Wednesday.
