RIFLE MATCH.

* A triple rifle competition, between Paten,. Waverley', and Wanganui Volunteer Corps was arranged to be- shot on Tuesday, at their respective ranges. The Patea team did not shoot till yesterday, owing to the inclemency of the weather. Absentees were to be credited with the average score in each case. The Patea average was 40, that of Waverley doi, and Wanganui 84A. The Patea team proved victorious by a considerable majority? though the scoring was poor throughout. The notice to Patea volunteers having been short, only 9 out of 12 mustered for the shooting. The Waverley team was the full dozen. Allowing the average score to the three absentees, the Patea team won by 56 points against Waverley, and by 69 against Wanganui, as will appear from the following scoring:—
