RAWERA.

[from our correspondent.]

I have to apologise for making an error in reporting the evidence Allan v. Newshnm. I should have stated the defendant as Frederick not Charles Newsham.

ere is to bo some new alteration with regard to the coaching. The coacli will in future leave Norman by at 6 o’clock in the morning. The Mountain Hoad is not at all improving; in tact, if it gets much worse wc may expect to have a. harbor near Normanby, as good sized ships would then be able to float from Waitave to Normanby without losing much copper. Normanby will then be in the proud position of having a claim for harbor works, and will in consequence at once become famous. Town Board. The monthly mooting was held on Monday, Present, Messrs King, Dnffill, Spence, Dingle, Stevenson, and Winks, Mr Winks was elected chairman for the ensuing your. Resolved, That the Chairman instruct the police to take proceedings against persons riding or driving over the footpaths.

Proposed by Mr Winks, seconded by Mr Dingle, •' That all persons who have crossings at the present time, and have not complied with the plans and specifications supplied by the Board, be given to the end of August to complete them, otherwise they will be closed up again at their expense,” Carried. Resolved, That the secretary see Sir J.wigg, and ask him to make out specifications for crossing. The Clerk stated that Mr Twigg had attended the last ordinary meeting night, but there being no quorum he had "left the following report. Ho estimated that to make a road as a continuation ol High-street, past the Cemetery, would cost about £l2O, but to make merely a dray track would come to about £SO to £6O, A bridle track would cost about £2O.

Proposed by Mr King, and seconded by Mr Dingle, “That the Chairman communicate with the Chairman of the Hawcra Road Board, and inform him that the Town Board is willing to form its share of the bridle track in the continuation of High-street past the Ocmotery, providing the Hoad Board continues the track.” Carried.

A report was handed in by Messrs King, Dnffill, and Cocklmrn, the committee appointed to enquire into the practicability of constituting the town of Hawcra a borough under the Municipal Corporations Act, The committee stated that there were 205 householders in Hawcra, but if they amalgamated with Nonnanby a sufficient number as required by the Act would bo found. They thought the Board should first decide whether it was advisable to amalgamate with Nonnanby. After some considerable discussion it was resolved that it was not advisable at present to amalgamate with Nonnanby in order to place the towns under the Municipal Act.
