TURRETS DEFIANCE.
PREPARING FOR WAR. ; . : Constantinople, 3rd
The Turkish Government are determined ;to resist the decision of the European Conferance. Preparations are being made to mobilise an army corps, although finances of the Turkish empire are very low. Excitement is very great here. It is expected that troops will be concentrated on the Greek frontier.
CHINESE PIRACY PLOT. ATTEMPT TO SIEZE A SHIP. Cooklown, Monday. Mail steamer Bowen, from Hong Kong with mails, reports that on the outward voyage a piratical plot among Chinese passengers was discovered by overhearing conversation. They intended to sieze the ship during the night. All hands being armed, the passengers were mustered, and 25 Chinese were arrested. Boxes containing loaded revolvers and packets of powder with fuses attached were discovered. Prisoners were handed over to to authorities for prosecution.
MORE SUFFERING COLONISTS. Cooktown, Monday. A New Ireland colonising skip, the Genie, arrived at Singapore June 7th, with three feet of water in her hold. Her engineers had doscatcd her. ACTION AGAINST BRADLAUGH. London, 3rd. An action has been brought in the Court of Queen’s Bench against Mr Bradiangh, to test tiie legality of the permission granted by the House of Commons to make affirmation instead of the customary oath.
CHINESE WAR PREPARATIONS. Singapore nows from China is of a most war-like character. Extensive military preparations were proceeding in view of expected war with Russia. AMNESTY TO COMMUNISTS. Paris. 3rd. ABill has-been introduced by the French Government, for granting plenary amnesty to Communists, founded on the resolution recently passed. The measure was rejected by a small majority, but an amended Bill was subsequently passed, granting amnesty to all Communists except those guilty of assassination or incendiarism. BRADLAUGH TAKES HIS SEAT. Hondo 11 1 ffi’A Mr Bradlaugb lias now been allowed to take bis seat in the House of Commons, by making an affirmation instead of the usual oath of allegiance to the 1 Sovereign and her heirs. Mr Bradiangh is the first avowed Republican who Ims sat in the House of Commons,
