HAWERA LAND SALE.

Sir, —Could you tell mo why the residential clause was struck out iu the last land sale, and not in the others held before in (he same district ? Our paternal legislators and the papers are always harping on “ Land for the people,” that the land should be settled, &c. To my mind the baud ought to be put up with no restrictions, so that the rightful owners will get it, viz., bankers, merchants, storekeepers, and moneyed men. Small capitalists ought not to be led to waste their money aud time after it. I applied for a section, and was outbid by a bank manager in Hawera. I do not think these me the men to go grubbing trees, &c. The plan, now that the Maoris have all the best land given them back, is to get the Bill passed quick to enable them to sell their lauds, so that our capitalists and moneyed men can go in and occupy the laud. Hoping some abler pen may take this up,—l remain, &c., A Selector.
