One largo firm of brewers will bo taxed on a business which turned out 240,000 gallons of beer last year. A tax on this at 6d would produce £OOOO. AGED OVER 100. Auckland, Monday. A man named William John Harris aged 102 years, died at the hospital to-day. NEW ALLUVIAL DIGGINGS. Invercargill, Monday. Parties working alluvial ground some 30 miles up Wairau river, lately came to Riverton to sell gold and get out miners’ rights. They were working on an area sufficient for 500 men.
