(Reuter's Special Despatches to the Mail. CANNIBALISM IN NEW GUINEA. SIXTY WOMEN EATEN. Sydney, Monday. News comes to hand from New Guinea that the natives on the west of the island attacked a number of villages on the coast j and have killed and eaten sixty women whom they had captured. ACCIDENT TO STEAMER. Cooktown, Monday. News has been received that the steamer Corea ran ashore on Claremont Island, but got off the same night, and was beached. She has sustained great damage. DISASTROUS FILIBUSTERING. A SHAMEFUL FRAUD. Cooktown, Monday. The missionary schooner Ellangowan has arrived here, and brings five of the Chandernagore party from New Ireland. They state that the vessel left Antwerp secretly, and used ilags of all nations occasionally on the voyage. Sixty men were confined below on penalty of- being shot. They arrived at Larhlan Island on January 10th, and fifty days afterwards their provisions were exhausted, and they bartered their clothes for food with the natives of Woodlark Island. These men repeat the accounts previously received of deplorable sufferings endured by the party. A relief schooner, the Wily, which was despatched from Sydney with stores transhipped from Chandenagore, called at New Ireland on May Ist, but stayed only two hours. Landed nothing but a bag of biscuits, a few pounds of pork, and one pound of tobacco. The men further denounce the perfidy of the colonising scheme, and say that the whole affair is a fraud. DEFEAT OF ME GLADSTONE. London, 19th. In the House of Commons, Sir Wilfred Lawson introduced a series of resolutions in favor of local option in the licensing of public houses. Mr Gladstone, Premier, opposed the resolutions ; but the House, after debate, agreed to them on a division. WANGANUI HARBOE LOAN. London, 19th. The Wanganui Harbor Improvement Loan of £60,000, at 6 per cent., is announced to-day in the London market. POLITICS IN VICTORIA. Melbourne, Monday. The division on the Reform Bill, which takes place next Thursday, is expected to be very close. It is thought very improbable that there will be a statutory majority in favor of the measure. THE CRICKET TOUR. London, 17th. The cricket match, Australians versus fifteen of Dublin University teams, commenced at Dublin to-day. The Australians went in first, and scored 220, Slight being not out for 56. The home team then went in, and when the stumps were drawn had lost one wicket for seven runs. London, 19th. The match of Australians versus Eighteen of Dublin University has terminated.

The 'match was drawn in favor of the Australians. IRISH RELIEF BILL. London, 17 th. In the House of Commons to-day, a bill dealing with the question of Irish relief aid was read a second time. LONDON MARKETS. London, 17tb. Consols have further risen one quarter, and are to-day quoted at 98£, ex dividend. New Zealand securities are unchanged. Markets for Australian and New Zealand breadstuffs are quiet, and without change in price. Bank rate of discount, 24 per cent. The total reserve in notes and bullion in in the Bank of England amounts to £17,275,000. London, 19tli. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 49s 6d; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 37s ; New Zealand, ex ship, 49s ; Adelaide beef tallow, 325. THE GREEK CLAIMS. Athens, 18tb. The Greek Government have sent a circular note to the Groat Powers, setting forth a claim for territory between Jauina and Grevesa, in the south of Albania, and for an extensive district in the province of Thessaly. The demands of the Government will, it is announced, ho referred to a Special Commission.
