STOCK REPORT. Mr F. R. Jackson’s fortnightly stock report says : My sales during the past fortnight have prssed off fairly well ; prices showing some slight improvement, with an increased demand for store stock. Sheep keep rising in value, with every prospect of good prices ruling as the spring approaches. Beef remains at last quotations, being 16s for medium, and 18s to 20s for prime. Cattle. —At Waverley, 211 head were yarded. Milch cows, £6 to £9 ; 2-year-old steers, £5 ; yearlings, £2 10s ; calves* £1 10s. At St. Hill-street, 324 head were sold. Fat cows, £5 10s to £7 ; bullocks, £8 15s to £9 5s ; cows, £4 5s ; 3-year-old steers, £5 2s fid ; 18-month-old steers, £3 7s 6d ; yearlings, £2 5s ; milch cows, £8 to £l2 2s 6d.

Sheep. —At Waverley, 516 were penned. Wethers, 7s 6d ; ewes, 5s 9d to 6s 6d. At Wednesday’s sale only 535 came forward. Ewes, 5s to 10s; wethers, 9s 3d to 10s 3d. Horses. —Dull of sale, only a few finding purchasers at low prices. Exports.—4o cattle, 517 sheep. CANTERBURY STOCK. (Latest Report.) Messrs Matson and Co, report that the most noticeable feature in the last auction at the Metropolitan Yards was the exceptionally large supply of fat cattle, the comparative absence of stores, and the prime quality of the bulk of the mutton to hand. Of the latter, there was an average entry, and with a latge attendance of the trade sales opened briskly, competition beingwell maintained throughout. Every line of fat sheep was sold as the sale progressed at satisfactory prices, fully bearing out last week’s quotation. Messrs Gould and Cameron’s wethers were a really magnificent line of sheep, and the theme of general admiration. They were heavy weights, well grazed and splendid quality, admitted by all who saw them to be one of the best lines of sheep that have ever come into this market. It is needless to say they elicited a keen competition in the biddings, values ruling from 10s 6d to 13s Od as per description ; a few lighter weights at 12a 6d per head. Store sheep were penned in very limited numbers, and every lot sold at extreme rates. Aged merino ewes at 4s 9d to 5s ; four-tooth aged merino ewes, to 5s ; mixed cross-bred for turnip feeding, 8s to 9s, &c. The fat cattle sale was characterised throughout by extreme dullness and want of spirit. The general quality of the beef on offer was good, but the bulk of the trade had supplied themselves privately, and considerable difficulty was experienced by salesmen in quitting the few lots remaining for auction. In price wo can quote no alteration, nor do we see any prospect of improvement. The supply is considerably in excess of requirements, and with the largo amount of winter feed will in all probability continue so. The low price of beef, of course, materially affects the value and demand for store cattle which arc now showing a marked decline.
